Stone Temple Pilots announce first tour dates and their own festival :
Stone Temple Pilots TicketsStone Temple Pilots, one of the most talented, yet troubled groups to come out of the 90's, put together a very successful reunion tour in 2008. The band seemed quick to call the reunion tour just that, nothing more.

For the beginning of the tour, STP claimed that the tour was simply a reunion tour to get together and play some of their hit songs for old-times sake and to give fans another shot at seeing the band. Midway through the tour, however, the band announced that they were writing new tunes for an upcoming album.

The album was rumored to be released in late 2009, but with a few delays, the album has now been announced to have an official release date of May 25th, 2010, and STP has gone ahead and announced the spring dates of their 2010 tour. There are sure to be more dates that will extend through the summer after the album releases.

These dates are notable, as they represent the first time in around a decade that Stone Temple Pilots have played outside of North America, due to singer Scott Weiland's probationary travel restrictions.

There are also reports that Stone Temple Pilots are planning on putting together their own touring music festival in the same style as Mötley Crüe's Crüe Fest. The report states that Weiland stated that the touring festival will take place after the European dates.

"We'll be playing South by Southwest in March, with a few more dates," said Weiland. Then we go to Europe to play all the big festivals in the early summer [and] come back [to the US] with our own festival we're putting together."

Stone Temple Pilots to open tour at SXSW, new album due out in 2010 :
Stone Temple Pilots, who late last year canceled their winter tour plans in order to focus on recording a new album, are gearing up for their return to the road.

Stone Temple Pilots Tour DatesThe band has rolled out a series of spring concerts that get underway with a March 18 performance at the annual SXSW music conference and festival in Austin, TX, and subsequent stops are scattered through late May. Details are included at right.

The spring outing will precede the anticipated June release of the group's sixth studio album, its first since 2001's "Shangri-La Dee Da." The band debuted the as-yet-untitled 12-track collection during a listening party last night (2/23) at New York City's Gramercy Park Hotel, according to SPIN.com.

Following the US outing, the group will head across the pond to tackle some shows on the European festival circuit.

Stone Temple Pilots Announce Tour Dates, Prepare Self-Titled Album for May 25 Release :
Stone Temple Pilots debuted their new record this week at a New York listening party, and now they've announced the album's name, its release date and some tour dates that will be happening before it comes out.

Stone Temple Pilots Concert DatesThe record will be called Stone Temple Pilots, and it's set to drop May 25. (Earlier reports had suggested we wouldn't be seeing it until the following week.) Also, according to Rolling Stone, the album will include lyrical references to frontman Scott Weiland's divorce and the death of his brother, two factors that definitely impacted the singer's 2008 solo album, "Happy" in Galoshes. (Though, if memory serves, Weiland and his wife were merely separated at that time.)

As for the tour, it kicks off March 18 at the South by Southwest music festival, working its way across the Midwest before ending March 31 in Detroit. After that, there will be a few more dates before the record's release. Weiland had mentioned previously that fans could expect "a long tour" after the album hits stores, so a slew of additional dates should be forthcoming.

Stone Temple Pilots’ Self-Titled Album Out May 25th :
Stone Temple Pilots’ first album in nine years will be released on May 25th, the reunited rockers announced today on their official Website. The album, which debuted this week at a listening party at New York’s Rose Bar, will boast 12 tracks and a pretty unforgettable title: Stone Temple Pilots. As Rolling Stone previously reported, STP canceled their final concerts of 2009 in order to finish the Don Was-produced LP, their first since 2001’s Shangri-La Dee Da.

In our Spring Album Preview in the upcoming issue of Rolling Stone (on sale Wednesday, March 3rd), we take a closer look at Stone Temple Pilots, on which Scott Weiland’s lyrics touch on his divorce and his brother’s death and guitarist Dean DeLeo lays down psychedelic and heavy blues riffs. “Dean really stepped up. His playing is amazing,” Weiland tells RS. The album includes gospel-rocking closer “Maver” and the Seventies-tinged “Huckleberry Crumble.” You can check out the entire Stone Temple Pilots track list above.

With the arrival of the new album comes a new Stone Temple Pilots tour, and Weiland and company will kick off the festivities with a showcase at this year’s SXSW Festival. Full tour dates and concert schedule listed here.    ... Source Article Here ...

Stone Temple Pilots Plan New Album and 'Long' Tour in 2010 :
If it seems like everything you hear about Scott Weiland is fodder for the supermarket check-out lanes, it's because you only hear about his exploits. But the truth is, Weiland has been up to more than just "no good." In fact, on the heels of a new solo effort, 'Happy in Scott Weiland From STPGaloshes,' and the launch of his own fashion line, Weiland is currently on the road with his "old faithful" band, Stone Temple Pilots. The tour currently has dates through the beginning of 2010 and Weiland reveals to Spinner that there's lots more in store. In fact, STP has a brand new album on deck.

"When we get back, we're going to finish the album," Weiland tells Spinner. "And then when we finish the album, there will be a big tour around its release and that will probably be a long tour." Without knowing the specifics quite yet, he speculates that the tour will likely stretch over a year, with some breaks. After that, he says, he'll press onwards with work on his third solo album.

And here you thought all he did was rock 'n' roll all night and party every day. For his part, Weiland asserts that while his highs (pardon the pun) are high, his lows aren't really lower than anybody else's. "It just happens that, at some point, my personal life became public interest," he says. "Every day, your average Joe, they have the same experiences that I have. They're just not reported on."

Yeah, because just about every "average Joe" has cut albums with the members of Guns N' Roses, won Grammys and continues to make hit songs, right?    ... Source Article Here ...

Stone Temple Pilots Debut New Album :
The nine-year wait for new Stone Temple Pilots music ended Tuesday night in New York City.

During a listening party at the Gramercy Park Hotel's Rose Bar -- where Guns N' Roses rocked out one week earlier -- the San Diego-bred quartet debuted their self-titled reunion album, their first since 2001's Shangri-La Dee Da, due out on May 25.

Scott Weiland of STP on StageSinger Scott Weiland, bassist Robert DeLeo, guitarist Dean DeLeo, and drummer Eric Kretz all attended the event, mingling with industry types like Warner Music CEO (and former Run-DMC tour manager) Lyor Cohen, as waiters handed out free drinks and hors d'oeuvres.

Atlantic Records Chairman and CEO Craig Kallman, who signed the band in the early '90s, delivered a speech before playing the album. He recalled hearing demos of Might Joe Young (STP's first name) and flying to L.A. to watch the band perform. He praised the quartet's talent, workmanship, and influence, and even compared them to Led Zeppelin. He then rattled off a list of stats -- more than 35 million records sold, 15 top ten singles, a No. 1 record with 1994's Purple, a Grammy, and more. And when he pushed play, it was obvious why.

The new album is classic STP. Its 12 tracks have the band's signature blend of tuneful melodies and rock guitar crunch, psychedelic solos and impressive crooning courtesy of Scott Weiland, who looked healthy and dapper in a snazzy suit coat. A few hard-hitting tracks featured tuneful, Beatles-esque songwriting, and a pair of songs on the album's second half slowed the tempo, a la "Sour Girl," with acoustic guitar and strong lead vocals from Weiland.

A tracklisting has yet-to-be announced, but among the 12 songs are "Huckleberry Crumble" and "Between the Lines," which Robert DeLeo recently described to SPIN.com as "musically like Paul Revere and the Raiders, with that '60s sound that I've always been a fan of."
"Fans are going get a great STP record… a really cohesive record with songs that are going to be lasting," he added. "We know what STP sounds like -- we have a sonic blueprint."

After a full play of the new album, Weiland took the mic at the Rose Bar to address the crowd. He thanked the attendees for their unwavering support and praised his band members' top-notch work with the instrumentation. "What about the vocals! The vocals! The vocals!" Dean DeLeo shouted from the back of the room. "Well, I've never been one to flatter myself," joked Weiland.

Stone Temple Pilots Short Biography :
Stone Temple Pilots were able to make alternative rock into stadium rock; naturally, they became the most critically despised band of their era. Accused by many critics of being nothing more than rip-off artists, pilfering from Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains, the band nevertheless became major stars in 1993. And the influences of those bands are apparent in their music, but Stone Temple Pilots do manage to change things around a bit. STP are more concerned with tight song structure and riffs than punk rage. Their closest antecedents are not the Sex Pistols or Hüsker Dü; instead the band resembles arena rock acts from the '70s -- it's popular hard rock that sounds good on the radio and in concert. No matter what the critics might say, Stone Temple Pilots have undeniably catchy riffs and production; there's a reason why over three million people bought their debut album, Core, and why their second album, Purple, shot to number one when it was released.

Scott Weiland STP TourFollowing the success of Purple and its accompanying tour, the band took some time off, during which the group's lead singer, Scott Weiland, developed a heroin addiction. In the spring of 1995, he was arrested for possession of heroin and cocaine, and was sentenced to a rehabilitation program. Following his completion of the program, Stone Temple Pilots recorded their third album. Released in the spring of 1996, Tiny Music...Songs From the Vatican Gift Shop, entered the charts at number four. Shortly after its release, Stone Temple Pilots announced that Weiland had relapsed and entered a drug rehabilitation facility, thereby canceling the group's plans for a summer tour. Weiland's drug problems and the group's inability to support Tiny Music with a tour meant that the album couldn't replicate the success of its predecessors -- by the end of the summer, it had fallen out the Top 50 and had stalled at platinum, which was considerably less than what the group's two previous albums achieved.

Still battling his personal demons, Weiland recorded a 1998 solo album, 12 Bar Blues, while the remaining members of STP recruited vocalist Dave Coutts to record a self-titled LP under the name Talk Show. To the surprise of many onlookers, Stone Temple Pilots then reunited, although shortly after completing 1999's No. 4 Weiland was sentenced to a year in a Los Angeles county jail for violating his probation stemming from an earlier conviction for heroin possession. A newly rejuvenated Stone Temple Pilots and a sober Weiland emerged stronger than ever during the new millennium. The band got back to basics on Shangri-La Dee Da, released in summer 2001. Two years later, STP issued the ambitious greatest-hits package Thank You. The audio-only edition featured 15 tracks -- 13 hits spanning the group's entire career, an acoustic version of "Plush" dating from 1992, and the new track "All in the Suit That You Wear." Thank You also appeared in a CD/DVD format that included three hours of videos, live performances, and behind-the-scenes footage. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
